Founded in 2014 by Pittsburgh natives Kenneth Deemer and Patrick Murray, Local Roots Landscaping has grown to include many of the area's top landscaping professionals. Together, they're building a more beautiful Pittsburgh through creative landscape design and durable construction, healthy plants, attentive landscape maintenance services, and a commitment to client satisfaction. Our team is made of Pittsburgh natives and long-time residents with a deep understanding of the local climate and community, a commitment to doing high-quality work, and a passion for building client relationships.

Field Operations Team
Greg
Born and raised in Penn Hills, Greg has a lifetime of landscaping experience, from natural stonework to drainage, heavy equipment operations, and more. He is certified in both ICPI and NCMA. Greg loves spending time with his wife and kids. You can usually catch him at one of his kids sports games cheering from the sidelines.
Tim
Tim has a background in mechanics and fabrication and also has years of landscape experience, from lawn maintenance, to building and maintaining bicycle trails, to site development.
In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his family, riding bikes, and photography.
Marcus
Marcus is a Pittsburgh transplant from Conneaut, Ohio who also served in the US Navy. He moved to North Versailles in 2016 and has 5+ years of experience with Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, but still is a die hard Cleveland Browns fan.
In his free time, Marcus enjoys being outdoors working on his own lawn, playing golf and softball, camping, and spending time with his family here in Pittsburgh or Ohio.
Matthew
With more than a decade of experience in lawn maintenance and installation, hardscapes, retaining walls, concrete, and more, Matthew also spent his younger years working at a greenhouse nursery and Christmas tree farm, and he studied automotive mechanics. He's as dedicated to the Pittsburgh Steelers as he is to outdoor living, and you'll often find him hunting, hiking, and doing other outdoor activities with his fiancé, three children, and black lab.
Rob
In his role, Rob loves strategic thinking, complex problem solving, and delivering projects with precision. His background as a carpenter has provided a solid foundation for managing complex projects and ensuring high standards of quality and service. His approach to leadership emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and a commitment to excellence, driving our teams to consistently exceed expectations.
Outside of work, Rob's passion for adventure shines through his involvement with all things on two wheels. Whether he's mountain biking, dirt biking, motorcycling or honing his skills with his kids at the Wheel Mill.
Construction Team
Ken
Ken brings years of experience in the outdoor construction industry and a positive attitude to the team. He loves working with reclaimed natural materials as well as masonry projects. He is NCMA and ICPI certified.
Ken is a Pittsburgh native, but loves to travel to new places and try new things. A serious foodie, he enjoys going to the different food festivals the Pittsburgh region has to offer.
In his free time he likes to relax, work on home projects, and perfect his grilling skills.
CJ
Christian Joseph (you can call him CJ) grew up in Monroeville and graduated from Gateway High School.
He has a passion for helping others, working out, and learning new skills. In his free time, CJ boxes at Boyce Boxing Barn for Formula A#1 Boxing.
He also enjoys going outside and hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, or rock climbing.
In the future, CJ wants to own his own company while flipping houses into section 8 homes for those in need.
Nevin
Growing up in Pitcairn, and has lived there his whole life. When he isnt working Nevin likes to be in nature, whether it be fishing or going on overnight hiking trips with his friends. Nevin has been around outdoor construction since he graduated high school working with his wrestling coach to build retaining walls and patios. Then did work remodeling kitchens learning plumbing electrical and hvac. To get more experience he joined the army reserves corps of engineers as a plumber and spent time at Sheppard Air Force base for training learning large scale outdoor plumbing along with interior plumbing.
NICK
Born and raised in Elizabeth Nick has been in the landscaping industry for several years. He started his own landscaping and maintenance company. Nick loves being outdoors, snowboarding, traveling, hunting, and fishing. Nick graduated from Penn State with a degree in Landscape Contracting.
Landscape Maintenance Team
Logan
Logan grew up in Plum on his family’s fam and loves off-roading, hiking, and riding quads in his free time.
He has a degree in horticulture and a sustainable landcare accreditation with Phipps Conservatory. Logan specializes in Water Features and Ponds and hopes to grow into a career in Landscape Design.
JOHN
After 15 years in the industry and a lifetime in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Known for his exceptional joy and kindness, you know your home is in good hands with him. Aside from working outdoors, he loves camping and live music (and, in the best-case scenario, both of those things at the same time).
Jamie
Jamie has been in the landscape industry since 2001. Jamie is a father, a hard worker, and strives to better himself. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing video games, and fishing with his family. His end goal is to work for himself and retire in Hawaii.
Bob
Bob has over 30 years in the construction industry. He has his PA Electrical License as well as Waste and Water License and Pesticide License. In his free time Bob enjoys hunting and the outdoors.
William
Will has lived across the United States including Everett, WA and now lives in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Will has his Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning and Bachelor’s in Geology with a minor in Biology. He is currently experimenting with vermicompost, biochar and recycling plastics. Using his knowledge and skills, Will plans to grow within the company and find solutions to environmental challenges the Pittsburgh community faces today.
In his free time, Will enjoys spending time with his girlfriend trying new food, camping, hiking, fishing, traveling, karate, exercise, writing short stories and serving as a caretaker.
Zac
Zac has been in landscape maintenance for four years now. He is experienced in mowing, bed preparation, and planting. Zac loves working in the outdoors and making Pittsburgh a more beautiful place. You can find Zac playing with his dogs, working out, and hanging out with friends in his free time.
Innovative Solutions Team
Paul
Paul is a transplant to Pittsburgh who grew up in the Washington DC area and moved to Pittsburgh to pursue a degree in Communication Studies and Business at Grove City College over a decade ago. Other than his allegiance to Washington sports teams however, he has become Pittsburgh through and through.
Paul lives in Bellevue, PA with his lovely wife Cailee and (soon to be) five children. He and his wife have a passion for foster care and at-risk youth and have had the privilege of fostering a number of children since their certification in 2020.
In his spare time Paul enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and watching any sport that they will put on tv.
Evan
Evan was born and raised in Pittsburgh, currently residing in Point Breeze with his lovely wife, Emily and their adorable rescue cat, Aurora.
He graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Landscape Architecture and his postgraduate experience includes both designing residential landscape plans, and the hands-on installation of them. He truly values the input of walking through the site with a client and hearing how they imagine utilizing their space in the future.
He finds the real joy of the job to be the peacefulness of a day spent enriching people’s experience with their environment.
In his free time, Evan enjoys playing sports, watching movies and spending time with his family and friends, paired with the occasional drink or two!
Donnie
Growing up just outside of Pittsburgh, in Weirton, WV, Donnie earned his Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture from West Virginia University in 2011. After calling Pittsburgh home for the last 10 years, he currently lives in Crafton with his partner Garrett, their dalmatian Coco, and cat Layla. In his free time, you can usually find Donnie and his partner traveling to a mountain to ski or sitting on the beach in Aruba with a drink in hand.
Administrative Team
Gina
Gina has over 25 years of administrative experience in Office Management, Accounting, and Customer Service. She is responsible for all office procedures and uses her organizational skills to ensure smooth operations within the organization. She is responsible for monthly billing, payroll, accounts payable and receivables as well as anything else that happens to fall on her plate. She is a proud Pittsburgh native who loves sports, music, outdoor activities, and heading to the Beach.
April
April was born in Florida but raised in Pittsburgh. She has a degree in Occupational Therapy and has a passion for helping others. In the future she would like to train therapy dogs for people. April enjoys outdoor activities like hiking with her dog and kayaking. She also enjoys going to concerts and the beach. April is also a die hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan!
Founders
Kenneth Deemer
Though born and raised in Pittsburgh, Kenneth lived and worked in Chicago, Philadelphia, Colorado, and Sydney, Australia before returning to Pittsburgh to start Local Roots Landscaping, where he has led the company with Patrick for over a decade. When he’s not building the best team in the world or creating beautifully crafted living spaces, you can find him loving life with his wife and two little boys, dirt biking, camping, traveling, and enjoying God's beautiful creation.
Patrick Murray
Patrick manages strategic development, employee growth, and overall management at Local Roots, leveraging his business management degree and landscaping experience in Ohio and Australia. A Pittsburgh native, he and his wife, along with their two children and beloved pup, proudly call this city home. Whether it’s cycling, traveling, hosting family and friends, a trip to COSTCO, or savoring the finest coffees, these are just a few of the passions that get Patrick talking faster than you can keep up!
