Founded in 2014 by Pittsburgh natives Kenneth Deemer and Patrick Murray, Local Roots Landscaping has grown to include many of the area's top landscaping professionals. Together, they're building a more beautiful Pittsburgh through creative landscape design and durable construction, healthy plants, attentive landscape maintenance services, and a commitment to client satisfaction. With years of experience and extensive industry training, Local Roots has a reputation for creating high-level landscaping while being easy to work with, which has led us to become the highest-rated landscape contractors in the area.

Field Operations Team
Greg
Born and raised in Penn Hills, Greg has a lifetime of landscaping experience, from natural stonework to drainage, heavy equipment operations, and more. He is certified in both ICPI and NCMA. Greg loves spending time with his wife and kids. You can usually catch him at one of his kids sports games cheering from the sidelines.
Mark
Mark is a Pittsburgh transplant from Conneaut, Ohio who also served in the US Navy. He moved to North Versailles in 2016 and has 5+ years of experience with Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, but still is a die hard Cleveland Browns fan.
In his free time, Mark enjoys being outdoors working on his own lawn, playing golf and softball, camping, and spending time with his family here in Pittsburgh or Ohio.
Matthew
With more than a decade of experience in lawn maintenance and installation, hardscapes, retaining walls, concrete, and more, Matthew also spent his younger years working at a greenhouse nursery and Christmas tree farm, and he studied automotive mechanics. He's as dedicated to the Pittsburgh Steelers as he is to outdoor living, and you'll often find him hunting, hiking, and doing other outdoor activities with his fiancé, three children, and black lab.
Rob
Rob thrives on strategic thinking, complex problem-solving, and delivering projects with precision. With a background in carpentry, he brings a strong foundation for managing complex projects and upholding high standards of quality. His leadership emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and excellence, driving teams to consistently surpass expectations.
Outside of work, Rob channels his adventurous spirit into all things on two wheels, from mountain biking and dirt biking to motorcycling and honing skills with his kids at the Wheel Mill.
Matthew
I've been married for 12 years. I've lived in Wexford for 12 years. I have been in the landscape field my entire life except for a 4 year stint in the Navy. I'm told I'm very analytical and a bit shy at first. But once I get talking you'll wish I stayed shy. My main area of expertise is Design, Hardscape, Estimating, and Landscape Business Consulting.
Construction Team
Ken
Ken brings extensive experience in outdoor construction and a positive attitude to the team. Specializing in masonry and reclaimed natural materials, he holds NCMA and ICPI certifications.
A Pittsburgh native, Ken loves traveling, exploring new places, and enjoying the region's food festivals. In his free time, he relaxes, works on home projects, and hones his grilling skills.
CJ
Christian Joseph (CJ), a Gateway High School graduate from Monroeville, is passionate about helping others, working out, and learning new skills. In his free time, he boxes at Boyce Boxing Barn and enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, and rock climbing.
CJ dreams of owning a company and flipping houses into Section 8 homes to support those in need.
Nevin
Nevin, a lifelong resident of Pitcairn, enjoys spending time in nature, fishing, and taking overnight hiking trips with friends. With a background in outdoor construction since high school, he started by building retaining walls and patios with his wrestling coach before expanding into kitchen remodeling, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work.
To gain further experience, Nevin joined the Army Reserves Corps of Engineers as a plumber, training at Sheppard Air Force Base in large-scale outdoor and interior plumbing.
NICK
Born and raised in Elizabeth Nick has been in the landscaping industry for several years. He started his own landscaping and maintenance company. Nick loves being outdoors, snowboarding, traveling, hunting, and fishing. Nick graduated from Penn State with a degree in Landscape Contracting.
JOHN
After 15 years in the industry and a lifetime in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Known for his exceptional joy and kindness, you know your home is in good hands with him. Aside from working outdoors, he loves camping and live music (and, in the best-case scenario, both of those things at the same time).
Logan
Logan grew up in Plum on his family’s fam and loves off-roading, hiking, and riding quads in his free time.
He has a degree in horticulture and a sustainable landcare accreditation with Phipps Conservatory. Logan specializes in Water Features and Ponds and hopes to grow into a career in Landscape Design.
Landscape Maintenance Team
Jamie
Jamie has been in the landscape industry since 2001. Jamie is a father, a hard worker, and strives to better himself. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing video games, and fishing with his family. His end goal is to work for himself and retire in Hawaii.
Zac
Zac has been in landscape maintenance for four years now. He is experienced in mowing, bed preparation, and planting. Zac loves working in the outdoors and making Pittsburgh a more beautiful place. You can find Zac playing with his dogs, working out, and hanging out with friends in his free time.
Jason
I’m 38 years old and was born in Pittsburgh. As a military kid, I lived in many different places before eventually moving back here. I have a wide range of knowledge—knowing a lot about a few things and a little about many others—which makes me easy to talk to. I bring about 12 years of full-service landscaping experience and also spent some time working as a chef.
William
Will has lived across the U.S., including Everett, WA, and now resides in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. With a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor’s in Geology (with a Biology minor), Will is exploring vermicompost, biochar, and plastic recycling. He aims to grow within the company and tackle Pittsburgh's environmental challenges.
In his free time, Will enjoys trying new foods with his girlfriend, camping, hiking, fishing, traveling, practicing karate, exercising, writing short stories, and serving as a caretaker.

Sarah
Sarah holds a degree in Business, Computer, and Information Technology Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Penn State. With over seven years of teaching experience and 11 years in fitness and nutrition coaching, Sarah brings a holistic approach to her work at Local Roots Landscaping.
Growing up on her family’s Christmas tree farm in Indiana, PA, Sarah developed a deep love for nature and sustainable design. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, cooking healthy meals, and spending time outdoors with her husband and three children.
Evan
Evan, a Pittsburgh native, lives in Point Breeze with his wife, Emily, and their rescue cat, Aurora. A West Virginia University graduate in Landscape Architecture, Evan has experience in designing and installing residential landscape plans. He values collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life and finds joy in enhancing their connection with their environment.
In his free time, Evan enjoys sports, movies, family, and friends, often accompanied by a drink or two.
Administrative Team
Gina
Gina has over 25 years of administrative experience in Office Management, Accounting, and Customer Service. She is responsible for all office procedures and uses her organizational skills to ensure smooth operations within the organization. She is responsible for monthly billing, payroll, accounts payable and receivables as well as anything else that happens to fall on her plate. She is a proud Pittsburgh native who loves sports, music, outdoor activities, and heading to the Beach.
April
April was born in Florida but raised in Pittsburgh. She has a degree in Occupational Therapy and has a passion for helping others. In the future she would like to train therapy dogs for people. April enjoys outdoor activities like hiking with her dog and kayaking. She also enjoys going to concerts and the beach. April is also a die hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan!
Founders
Kenneth Deemer
Though born and raised in Pittsburgh, Kenneth lived and worked in Chicago, Philadelphia, Colorado, and Sydney, Australia before returning to Pittsburgh to start Local Roots Landscaping, where he has led the company with Patrick for over a decade. When he’s not building the best team in the world or creating beautifully crafted living spaces, you can find him loving life with his wife and two little boys, dirt biking, camping, traveling, and enjoying God's beautiful creation.
Patrick Murray
Patrick manages strategic development, employee growth, and overall management at Local Roots, leveraging his business management degree and landscaping experience in Ohio and Australia. A Pittsburgh native, he and his wife, along with their two children and beloved pup, proudly call this city home. Whether it’s cycling, traveling, hosting family and friends, a trip to COSTCO, or savoring the finest coffees, these are just a few of the passions that get Patrick talking faster than you can keep up!
